Luyang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by the Regional Survey Party of Hunan Province in 1972. The naming section is located in the vicinity of Luyang area, Huaihua County, Hunan Province.
Synonym: (泸阳组)
Lithology and Thickness
Its basal part is possessed of a layer of massive quartz-chert conglomerates, gradating upwards into purple argillaceous sandstones, sandy mudstones, and grey-white feldspar-quartz sandstones, with a thickness of over 617 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in a disconformable contact with the underlying Dahupo Fm.
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Shikang Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed extensively in the Huaihua, Chenxi and Yuanling areas. The lithology and thickness of the present formation tend to change greatly from place to place, with the thickness varying in a range from 167 m to over 1000 m. It yields bivalves also in the Jianding Mt of the Cili area.

Fossils
It yields bivalve fossils in the Huaqiao section as represented by Pseudocardinia hupenensis, Cuneopsis cf. johannisboehmi, Tutuella chachlovi, T. cf. iraidae and T. cf. rotunda.

Depositional setting
The formation belongs to fluvial-lacustrine deposits.
